CAVALLERIA RUSTICANA and PAGLIACCI in Met Double Bill at Strand on April 25

Rockland, Maine - The 2014-2015 Metropolitan Opera’s Live-in-HD season of broadcasts from Lincoln Center to the Strand Theatre, 345 Main Street, continues Saturday, April 25 at 12:30pm with the Live broadcast of Cavalleria Rusticana and Pagliacci. An Encore broadcast will take place Tuesday, May 19 at 12:30pm.

Opera’s most enduring tragic double bill returns in an evocative new production from Sir David McVicar, who sets the action across two time periods but in the same Sicilian village. Marcelo Álvarez rises to the challenge of playing the dual tenor roles of Turiddu in Cavalleria Rusticana (Mascagni) and Canio in Pagliacci (Leoncavallo). Rae Smith (War Horse) has designed the moodily atmospheric 1900 village square setting of Cavalleria, which transforms to a 1948 truck stop for the doomed vaudeville troupe of Pagliacci. Eva-Maria Westbroek (Cavalleria) and Patricia Racette (Pagliacci) sing the unlucky heroines, and Met Principal Conductor Fabio Luisi is on the podium.

Running time: 3 hours, 30 min. Tickets on sale now: $27 adults, $15 students; Encore show tickets available day-of-show: Adult $23 / Student $5.
