Portland Sweeps Richmond with 7-1 Win in Finale

Augliera earns sixth win of the season, Magic Number down to 1

Portland, Maine - The Portland Sea Dogs (78-50) used a five-run second en route to the 7-1 win over the Richmond Flying Squirrels (70-57) Sunday afternoon at Hadlock Field. The win completes the three-game sweep and locks the season series 4-2 in favor of the Sea Dogs.

Portland's offense was retired on three strikeouts by Kyle Crick in the first, but they exploded for five runs and took total control of the game in the second. The 'Dogs loaded the bases with two down against the righty courtesy of a single and two walks, setting the table for Shannon Wilkerson.

The leadoff man battled and drew a walk, plating Stefan Welch and giving Portland the 1-0 lead. The wheels continued to turn for the hometown team as Mike Miller hit a run-scoring infield single doubling the lead to 2-0. Michael Almanzar followed with a liner to left that was misjudged by Devin Harris, resulting in a three-run double and Portland held the 5-0 lead.

Mike Augliera was on the mound for the Sea Dogs and he assumed his steady self on the Sunday afternoon. The righty worked around the Richmond order with relative ease, holding them scoreless after three innings while tallying three strikeouts.

The offense for Portland tallied a single run over each of the next two innings against the Flying Squirrels'
bullpen. Mike Brenly picked up an RBI on a fielder's choice in the third and David Chester hit a mammoth solo homer over the Maine Monster in the fourth, making it 7-0 'Dogs.

Augliera (6-10) continued to have great command of all three pitches over the rest of his outing. The lone negative on his stat line came in the fifth in the form of a leadoff solo homer off the bat of Tyler LaTorre, his first, which made it 7-1.

The righty earned the win completing six innings and allowing just the one run on six hits. He walked two and struck out six on the day before Portland dipped into the bullpen.

Robby Scott was called upon for two innings of work, which he completed in scoreless fashion before Aaron Kurcz pitched the ninth.

Crick (6-7) took home the loss, lasting just five outs, all of which were strikeouts. He allowed five runs on two hits and four walks. Phil McCormick and Carlos Alvarado gave up a lone run each before four other pitchers combined to pitch the final four innings in scoreless fashion.

The Sea Dogs have an off day Monday before they return to action against the Harrisburg Senators Tuesday night at 7:00 PM from Metro Bank Park. Portland is slated to send RHP Luis Diaz (3-3, 4.01) to the hill against a pitcher that has yet to be named for the Senators.
