Join The Owls Head Transportation Museum for the inaugural Maine Rail Group Conference on April 12

Owls Head, Maine - In conjunction with the Maine Rail Group the Owls Head Transportation Museum is pleased to host the inaugural Maine Rail Group Conference and Fair on Saturday, April 12. The gathering will coincide with the Museum’s Winter Education Series talk “The Last Dragons: 21st Century Steam & High Speed Rail in China Today” delivered by rail aficionado Russ Barber.

Barber has travelled to China extensively hunting down the last working steam engines on earth and researching the steam rail technology there. His talk will feature photos and illustrations from his travels and research. During his program Barber will also touch on China’s Model high-speed rail and the Maglev ultra-high-speed line. The talk will begin at 1 pm and will be followed by a second program at 2 pm titled “The Present and Future of Passenger Rail in Maine.” The conference and fair will run from 10 am until 4 pm, the entire program is free and refreshments, catered by French and Brawn Catering and Market Place of Camden will be available for purchase on site between 11 am and 1 pm.

The final talk in our 2014 Winter Education Series will be held on a rescheduled date of Sunday, April 27 at 1 pm. The program is titled “Marine Engines in Maine” and will be presented by Penobscot Marine Museum Curator Ben Fuller. Join Fuller as he chronicles the transition from sail and human powered vessels to internal combustion. Fuller will discuss the historic Maine-based mariners, innovators and builders who pioneered marine engine technology.
