Thomaston, Maine - Trekkers will host the 2nd Annual Thomaston Trek 5K/10K Run/Walk on Sunday, June 7th. This year’s event will start and finish at the Thomaston Academy/Thomaston Public Library, located at 60 Main Street in Thomaston. The family-friendly fundraiser is perfect for all ages and all levels of walkers or runners. As a fun option this year, participants are encouraged to wear their favorite Superhero attire or costume!
Advance online registration for Thomaston Trek 2015 is $25 per person at www.active.com. The registration fee on the day of the race will be $30. Registration includes a free event T-shirt and post-run pancake breakfast at The Slipway Restaurant, located near the Public Landing in Thomaston. Prizes will be awarded to the winners.
Check-in and registration will take place from 7:30–8:00am. The race begins at 8:30am and will be held rain or shine. Parking for the run/walk will be available at the Thomaston Academy/Thomaston Public Library. Additional parking will be available at the St. James Church, immediately adjacent to the Academy with an entrance on Gleason Street.
Routes for both the 5K and 10K wind through the historic residential streets of Thomaston. There
will be local EMS on site for safety, along with water stations and intersection volunteers to direct runners and walkers along the entire route.
Thomaston Trek is open to the public. Community members are encouraged to participate in the 5K/10K, and attend the pancake breakfast from 8:30–10:30am at The Slipway Restaurant. The breakfast is free for registrants. Non-race participants are welcome to attend the pancake breakfast for a $5.00 donation. Proceeds from the event will benefit Trekkers’ programs for local youth. This year’s lead sponsor for Thomaston Trek is The First.
Trekkers is a non-profit, outdoor-based mentoring program that connects young people with caring adults through expeditionary learning, community service and adventure-based education. Trekkers serves 7th through 12th grade students from the six communities of RSU #13: Cushing, Owls Head, Rockland, South Thomaston, St. George and Thomaston.
