| Mustard flower by Philip Bouchard |
Mustard is a versatile, easy-to-make condiment. “Betz” Golon will tell her story of how she became fascinated with the yellow stuff, and demonstrate how to enhance store-bought mustards or make new creations with ingredients grown in the backyard garden. There will be plenty of samples to try and recipes to take home. Betz will also bring a selection of mustards and other herb products for purchase.
Betz has served the Sabbathday Lake Shaker Community as a teacher for two decades. As herbalist and manager of Herb and Vine at Common Folk Farm, she creates herbal products for museums, botanical gardens, and L.L. Bean. She also works on honorarium basis as herbalist for George Washington’s Mount Vernon estate.
This program is the first of the Spring Talk series at Merryspring. The Spring Talk series is co-sponsored by The First and Jackson Landscape Services. Tuesday Talks are open to the public for $5, with free admittance for Merryspring members.
