Camden/Rockport, Maine - Pollinator enthusiast Kathleen Marty will lead a presentation on mason bees at Merryspring Nature Center on Tuesday, May 5 at 12:00 pm.
When people talk about bees, they’re often referring to the introduced European honeybee. However, native mason bees are also efficient pollinators. Named after their habit of making their homes with packed mud, mason bees are solitary nesters that do not produce honey. Marty will speak about how keeping mason bees can help curve the pollinator crisis, as well as how to create a mason bee haven in your own backyard.
This program is presented in part by the Garden Club Federation of Maine, in partnership with the National Garden Clubs, Inc. and Crown Bees National program.
Marty has served as president of the Garden Club Federation of Maine since 2011. Prior to becoming the President of GCFM, she was President of the Boothbay Region Garden Club for three years.
This program is part of the Spring Talk series at Merryspring, co-sponsored by The First and Jackson Landscape Services. Tuesday Talks are open to the public for $5, with free admittance for Merryspring members.
