Celebrating Spring and the 5th Anniversary of Monkitree
Gardiner, Maine - On the 5th anniversary of Monkitree, a show of birds seems fitting. Why not trees? Or Monkeys? There are two quotes that hold the answers:

Author Anne Lamott tells the story of her brother being overwhelmed by a homework assignment on birds and her father telling him, “Bird by bird, buddy. Just take it bird by bird.” Then there is a French proverb that states “Little by little, the bird builds his nest.”

As Monkitree celebrates our 5 year anniversary, these quotes speak to process and perseverance, taking things one step at a time and continuing to grow and move forward. These sentiments are true for our business, true for our artists, and true for the bird building his nest.

After this winter we can all use a bit of spring and what better symbol than birds? Little by Little, Bird by Bird includes bird inspired works by nine Maine artists: Helene Farrar, Nancy Barron, Bridget McAlonan, Susan Mathias, Barbara Chase, Elizabeth Korson, Virginia Hurley, Betsy Cook, and Sarah Smith. Capturing the birds that capture their fancy, each artist explores our fine feathered friends from their own perspective and in their chosen medium.

Little by Little, Bird by Bird will open with a reception on May 1st from 5:30-8:30pm, this coincides with Artwalk Gardiner. An artist reception and Monkitree anniversary celebration will take place on May 15th from 5:30-9pm.

Monkitree is a fine art and craft gallery located at 263 Water Street in historic downtown Gardiner, Maine.
