Camden/Rockport, Maine - Greenhouse Specialist Fred Griego will lead a hands-on workshop about how to extend the growing season with greenhouses at Merryspring Nature Center on Saturday, October 4 at 10 am.
Using the Merryspring greenhouse as a teaching tool, this workshop is designed to teach gardeners the basics of greenhouse growing in the shoulder seasons. Guests will learn the basics of greenhouse techniques and growing skills, and about different types of greenhouse enclosures for both indoor and outdoor cultivation, from simple windowsill terrariums to larger outdoor hoop-houses. Part of the workshop will focus on selecting varieties of flowers and vegetables suitable for greenhouse cultivation. Participants will start flats of both vegetable and flower seeds to take home and grow using their newly-learned skills. The workshop will also address other concerns of indoor gardeners including diseases and pesticides.
Griego is owner and operator of Greenhouses of Maine, based in Camden.
This workshop will take place inside the greenhouse at Merryspring. Guests should wear weather appropriate clothing. This class is limited to 15 people, and registration is required. The cost of this program is $20, with a discounted rate of $15 for Merryspring members. To sign up, or for more information, please contact Merryspring at 236-2239 or info@merryspring.org.
