Rockport, Maine - Coastal Mountains Land Trust and the Cascade Foundation invite the public to participate in the second annual Kites and Ice Cream event held on Sunday, September 14 from 1:00 to 4:00 PM at the Beech Hill Preserve in Rockport.
The Land Trust welcomes children to come fly kites and eat ice cream at the top of Beech Hill. The event, sponsored by the Cascade Foundation, is free and open to the public. Kites will be provided and one free ice cream, provided by Stone Fox Farm Creamery, will be available for each child.
The event is free but registration is required and limited to 100 children. To register, simply call the Land Trust office at (207) 236-7091. Participating children must be accompanied by an adult. Participants who do not register are welcome to fly their own kites, and ice cream will also be available for purchase for those who did not register for the event, accompanying adults, and other preserve visitors.
In addition to sponsoring the event, the Cascade Foundation has made a generous offer to match any
donations collected on the day of the event, up to $5,000, to support the Land Trust's conservation programs, including stewardship of the preserve.
The Land Trust will designate appropriate kite-flying areas at the crest of the hill to protect the integrity of its commercial blueberry fields which are otherwise not open to the public.
Beech Hill Preserve is a 295-acre conservation property, managed for the complimentary purposes of maintaining its scenic beauty, historic value, grassland bird habitat, and organic blueberry production. Coastal Mountains Land Trust works to permanently conserve land to benefit the natural and human communities of the western Penobscot Bay region.
