Blue Hill, Maine - Are you ready to independently publish your book? The Blue Hill Public Library will be offering a workshop about independent publishing by Cheryl McKreary, the managing editor of Maine Authors Publishing, on Thursday May 1st at 6:30 PM. Registration is now open and space is limited. The course is free, but will only go ahead if enough people sign up.
Recent advances in printing technology have created a boom in independent publishing. Many first time authors as well as those previously published are choosing to self-publish. This class will guide authors through the steps needed to publish responsibly and effectively, and demonstrate how to avoid the many pitfalls in the fast-changing world of independent publishing. Participants learn about all the aspects of self-publishing, such as the importance of editing, deciding whether to publish eBooks or traditional books, how to develop marketing plans and what technical assistance is needed to get a book in print, as well as what is offered locally. The workshop will also highlight the many types of organizations, printers and publishers that work with Maine authors.
Presenter Cheryl McKeary is the managing editor of Maine Authors Publishing. She is in charge of the trade catalog production, the editing team as well as Internet marketing and social media. Each attendee will receive the book "Mind Your Ps and Qs,” by Genie Dailey, the owner of Finepoints Editorial Services.
To register for the workshop, use the Library's online interactive calendar, located at www.bhpl.net or call the Library at 374-5515.
