The Camden Hills are blessed with a glacial geology that is perfect for rock climbers, and they can often be spotted dotting the cliffs. Rees will present an overview about this sport, including types of rock climbing and the evolution of technical climbing, safety precautions, and both real and perceived dangers. He will also provide a brief explanation about why the rocks in Camden are suitable for climbing and a short history of climbing in the area. In addition to a short slide show, Rees will bring climbing gear for the audience to examine.
Rees has been doing technical climbing for the past 25 years. He is a certified guide through the American Mountain Guides Association and is trained as a Wilderness First Responder and Maine Recreation Guide. He is a member of the local high angle rescue team and has taught rock climbing at the Pen Bay YMCA for the past 11 years. He lives in Lincolnville.
