Rockland, Maine ---- The Strand Theatre, 345 Main St., will screen BENEATH THE HARVEST SKY, the new film by Maine directors Aron Gaudet and Gita Pullapilly beginning on April 3; a post-screening discussion with the filmmakers will follow the Sunday, May 3 shows at 2pm and 5:30pm. The directors chose to premiere their new film in Maine prior to its general release. Aron and Pullapilly are best known for their 2009 documentary THE WAY WE GET BY, about a group of senior citizens in Bangor, Maine who greet U.S. troops at the Bangor International Airport.
The film is the story of the coming of age of two fiercely loyal best friends in a small farming town in Maine. During harvest break, one is drawn into smuggling drugs across the Canadian border with his outlaw father. The other works his final potato harvest, hoping to earn the money he needs to buy a car and take them away towards a better future. Their friendship and loyalty are put to the test as they are forced to mature and make very adult decisions that will forever alter the course of their lives.
BENEATH THE HARVEST SKY screened at the 2013 Camden International Film Festival to a sold out crowd at The Strand.
