City of Portland Spring Cleaning Update

City reminds residents to adhere to parking restrictions as public services

crews continue sweeping neighborhoods

PORTLAND, Maine – The City of Portland is pleased to announce that Public Services crews have made great progress with its spring cleaning efforts of streets and sidewalks. The Peninsula is substantially complete with all neighborhoods having been swept once. City workers will be doing another run through of the West End neighborhoods this week, April 22-25. The sweeping of all main lines off Peninsula will also begin this week, following salt and sand priority routes. These streets follow the odd and even parking restrictions and so the public is reminded to adhere to those protocols. This phase of sweeping work will take the balance of the next few weeks as the City prepares for its lane marking contractor to repaint the traffic lines in early May.

Sidewalks mains in Districts 3, 4 and 5 will be complete by the end of this week. Later in May, crews will begin street sweeping in those neighborhoods.

Beginning April 28, crews will focus on downtown areas to address graffiti, winter damage and planting. Once the street and sidewalk sweeping is complete, the focus will turn to city parks for mowing, mulching of trees and road side planter beds, and street patching.
