“Historic Sailmaking Techniques,” an illustrated lecture with sailmaker Eben Wilson of Nathaniel S. Wilson Sailmakers of East Boothbay, on the techniques and tools of sailmaking that have changed little since the 1700s. 7:00 pm at the Camden Public Library. The talk is part of the library’s Maritime Month lecture series.
Tuesday, April 15
Songwriters Session at the Camden Public Library, 6:00 pm. The group will meet once a month, and perform at the Songwriters Coffeehouse in June. Drop-ins welcome.
Dr. Erik Zettler of SEA in Woods Hole will give an illustrated lecture on “The Plastisphere: A New Marine Ecosystem,” at 7:00 pm at the Camden Public Library as part of the library’s Maritime Month series. The Plastisphere is the microbial world in the oceans that is created by microscopic bits of plastic.

“How Not to Get Lyme Disease” presented by Dr. Stephen D. Sears, state epidemiologist, 1:00 pm at the Camden Public Library, covering symptoms, diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of the rampant tick-borne disease. The talk is free, but registration is required; call Quarry Hill at 230-6116 to register.

“Maine Wildflowers” with Wanda Garland, hosted by the Midcoast Audubon Society, 7:00 pm at the Camden Public Library. Garland has written a book about wildflowers, to be published soon, and will share some of her extraordinary photographs and knowledge of native plant species.
Tuesday, April 22
Celebrate Earth Day with Poetry – the Camden Public Library and Coastal Mountains Land Trust are partnering to host an “Open Mike Poetry Evening,” with an emphasis on celebrating nature. Everyone is invited to come enjoy the readings and to read a poem or two of their choosing, 7:00 pm at the Camden Public Library. Poets Gary Lawless and Kristen Lindquist will introduce and MC the event.
Thursday, April 24
Dick Baldwin will give an illustrated talk at 7:00 pm at the Camden Public Library on Educational Passages, which launches student-built model sailboats. The sailboats can be tracked by GPS around the world and displayed on your home computer.
