Thursday, May 19

“Boatbuilding on Mt. Desert Island” with author Laurie Schreiber, 7:00 pm at the Camden Public Library. Mount Desert Island possesses a rich and diverse history of boatbuilding.


Monday, May 23

Free Writing Workshop 10:00 am at the Camden Public Library, offered by Teresa Piccari, proprietor of The Village Scribe. “Memoir and Personal Essay” will be a two-hour session, please call the library to sign up, at 236-3440.


Tuesday, May 24

What’s your vision for Knox County? The Maine Community Foundation wants to know, and will host a community conversation and complimentary continental breakfast at the Camden Public Library to hear how we can build on our community strengths and improve the quality of life for all Maine people. The Foundation’s Knox County Committee will host the forum with MaineCF President and CEO Steve Rowe. The breakfast will begin at 7:30 and discussion at 8:00 am. Leer y charlar is “Read and chat,” entirely in Spanish! All who are proficient in Spanish are welcome to join the discussion, 2:00 pm at the Camden Public Library. 

The Quasimodal Chorus and the January Men And Then Some perform a spring concert in the Reading Room at the Camden Public Library, 7:00 pm. Free; donations accepted. The groups will perform songs honoring some of their favorite musicians and composers.


Thursday, May 26

Free film screening, “The Simulation Hypothesis,” by Kent Forbes, hosted by the Camden Philosophical Society, 7:00 pm at the Camden Public Library. Are we living in a virtual reality? And, if so, could we ever tell? Is it possible to “hack” the system and change reality? Forbes will introduce his film and join us for what promises to be a lively discussion.


Saturday, May 28

Simply Books! is the Camden library’s book group for adults. There’s no set reading list, we don’t all read the same book, and it’s very informal. We simply bring along whatever book we’re currently reading and share it with the group. 2:00 pm at the Camden Public Library, all are welcome.


Sunday, May 29

Hypnotism demonstration, 2:00 pm at the Camden Public Library. Presented by Nat Lawson, a senior at Camden Hills Regional High School, who has been giving professional-quality presentations on “mentalism” for several years, and is expanding his expertise into hypnotism.


Tuesday, May 31
  
The Camden Energy and Sustainability Committee hosts a presentation on “Two Energy Options: Solar and Efficiency” at the Camden Public Library at 7:00 pm. The Committee has invited representatives from Sundog Solar, Evergreen Home Performance, and ReVision Energy to present on technical and economic factors involved in improving building efficiency and generating solar power.


Wednesday, June 1

Midcoast Stroke Support Group meeting, 10:00 am at the Camden Public Library, all are welcome.


Thursday, June 2

Camden Library Coffeehouse features the annual “Songwriters’ Coffeehouse,” 7:00 pm, with the musicians of the Songwriters Sessions led by David Dodson with Rachel and John Nicholas. The group has been producing original work that spans styles from singer-songwriter, to blues, ballads, love songs, hymns. $5 donation at the door.
