Brunswick, ME— The Leapfrog Group, an independent nonprofit organization representing employers and purchasers of health care, has once again honored Mid Coast Hospital with an “A” Hospital Safety Score. Mid Coast has received an A rating each of the seven times the Hospital Safety Score has been released since the spring of 2012.
“At Mid Coast Hospital, we work tirelessly to provide the highest quality healthcare to the patients and communities we serve,” said Barbara McCue, RN, Director of Quality & Patient Safety. “Caring for our patients and meeting the healthcare needs of the community means continuously looking for ways we can improve everything we do. Indicators such as The Leapfrog Group allow us to identify areas to focus on.”
The Hospital Safety Score uses 26 measures to produce a single score representing a hospital’s overall capacity to keep patients safe. Mid Coast Hospital is one of 11 Maine hospitals that received an A.
“The Leapfrog Group is one of many organizations respected for its commitment to improving healthcare. We are pleased to be recognized in the good company of ten other Maine Hospitals, which have also earned an "A" in patient safety,” said McCue. BLUE HILL, Maine – Matthew Langdon Cost will talk about and read from his new historical novel, Joshua Chamberlain and the Civil War: At Every Hazard at the Blue Hill Public Library on Thursday November 5th at 7:00 PM.
Joshua Chamberlain and the Civil War: At Every Hazard is about one of that war’s genuine heroes, a college professor with no formal military training who, together with a small company of men, turned the tide of the battle and the war with a bayonet charge at Gettysburg. This was not the end of his exploits, however, and by war’s end, he was so respected that Ulysses S. Grant chose Chamberlain to accept the South’s surrender of the Army of Northern Virginia.
The novel traces his evolution from an arrogant, overbearing professor to unwitting and unlikely hero and leader of men. Interwoven are subplots including the coming of age of a young orphaned aide, a complicated marriage, and of course, rousing battle scenes.
Matthew Langdon Cost graduated with a B.A. in history from Trinity College in Hartford, Connecticut. He has since published two mystery novels, Mainely Power and Mainely Fear. Joshua Chamberlain and the Civil War: At Every Hazard was published in April of 2015. Cost was a business owner for ten years in Brunswick, Maine. Later on he became a middle school social studies teacher for ten years, and has now dedicated himself to life as a writer.
