UPDATED: Camden Rite Aid Hostage Situation Ended With Gunman Taken Own Life

CAMDEN, Maine - Police surrounded Rite Aid on Elm Street in Camden and blocked off Route 1 to traffic Monday night into Tuesday morning with a standoff, hostage situation unfolding . The State Police tactical team was on scene as well as Camden, Rockport, Rockland Police officers and Knox County Sheriff's Office.

The hostage standoff with police ended when Robert J. Beerman, 34, from Camden released the hostage and police went in after negotiations went silent. When police entered the Rite Aid in Camden found Robert with a gunshot wound that killed him. Hostage standoff ended around 3:30am this morning.

There was no other injuries from this situation.
