Marrero's big hit, lifts the 'Dogs to a 4-3 win

Portland sweeps the day/night doubleheader in Trenton
TRENTON, N.J. -  The Portland Sea Dogs (38-18) completed the day/night doubleheader sweep with a 4-3 win over the Trenton Thunder (30-27) on Saturday night at Arm & Hammer Park. Portland has won the first 3 games of the series and closed out their best May in franchise history at 23-10.  Earlier in the day, the 'Dogs won 9-4 behind Keith Couch's sixth career complete game and 4 RBI from Mookie Betts

Trailing 3-2 heading into the top of the seventh inning, Bo Greenwell began the rally with a one-out walk.  Mookie Betts (3-for-4) picked up his sixth hit of the doubleheader, a double down the left-field line to advance Greenwell to third base.  With the infield drawn in, Deven Marrero delivered a two-run single to centerfield for the game-winning hit.

In Trenton's seventh, Rob Refsynder led off the frame with a double off Noe Ramirez.  Dan Fiorito sacrificed
Refsnyder to third base. Ramirez didn't lose his composure, fanning Yeral Sanchez and retiring Carmen Angelini on a foul out to right field to preserve the win. Ramirez made it 6-for-6 in save chances.

Mike McCarthy (4-2) was excellent for Portland in his first appearance since May 19th.  The righty gave up two singles in the first inning with two outs and went on to retire the next 14 batters.  In the sixth, Trenton took a 3-2 on a two-out single by Tyler Austin and a two-run homer from Gary Sanchez.  McCarthy earned the win, picking up his fourth quality start of the season.  His final line was 6 IP on five hits, three runs, no walks and three strikeouts.

Fred Lewis (0-2) took the loss for Trenton, allowing two runs on two hits over 2 IP.  Starter Jeremy Bleich pitched the first 5 innings, yielding six hits and two runs.

Portland grabbed a 2-0 lead in the third inning, scoring both runs with two outs. Betts began the rally with a single and scored on a double by Marrero. Stefan Welch plated home the second run on a single.
