For students contemplating health careers, talking to persons who do these jobs every day can provide valuable insight into the specific job responsibilities and high tech environments in which they work. Attendees will have the opportunity to explore many careers, including nursing, pharmacy, laboratory, diagnostic imaging, and rehabilitation.
Students and parents of public or private secondary schools within the Midcoast area may obtain more information about Healthcare Career Day from their guidance counselors and/or principals who have received details about the event. Home schooled students, college and post grads, or people thinking about changing careers, are also invited to attend.
Participants will have the opportunity to talk one-on-one with staff and employees who are responsible for the daily healthcare needs of our community. Staff will discuss their level of satisfaction with their chosen career, the educational requirements for those careers, and how they acquired the education and skills necessary to obtain the position. Several MCH staff employees are graduates of Maine colleges and technical schools.
As part of the event, students will be given a tour of Mid Coast Hospital where they will see staff and employees in action, learn about the hospital's healing environment, and view specialized equipment and technology used in a healthcare setting.
