UPDATED: Boston 9-Alarm Fire Claims Two Boston Firefighters (Fire Knocked Down)

Update on Beacon St. 8: The Boston Fire Commissioner regrets to announce the Line of Duty deaths of two Boston firefighters killed today. Killed was Lt. Edward J. Walsh,Jr. assigned to Engine Company 33 on Boylston Street. 43 yo, a 9 1/2 year veteran. Second killed was Firefighter Michael R. Kennedy of Ladder Company 15 on Boylston St. 33yo, a 6 1/2 yr veteran. Also Veteran USMC. 

Lt. Walsh was the son of a Watertown firefighter. Married with 2 boys, 1 girl- all under age 10. He lived in West Roxbury.

Lt. Walsh's late father was a Lieutenant as was his late Uncle Bill. His cousin Tom is currently a Captain, all on Watertown Fire

Firefighter Kennedy was single and lived in Hyde Park. He was a veteran of the Marine Corps.

The fire is knocked down with remaining firefighters chasing hot spots.

Boston Mayor Marty Walsh says; Tonight we mourn the loss of 2 of our own. Lt. Ed Walsh, Firefighter Michael Kennedy lost their lives battling a 9-alarm fire on Beacon St.

Our hearts are heavy with the knowledge that these brave men gave their lives to protect the safety of our city & its people.

Update on Beacon St. Fire 7: It is being reported that two firefighters lost their lives.
Update on Beacon St. Fire 6: The current Boston EMS patient transport count for the Beacon Street Fire is now at 18.
Update on Beacon St. Fire 5: Boston EMS has now transported a total of 17 patients from the Beacon Street Fire. This is still an active incident.
Update on Beacon St. Fire 4: Boston EMS can confirm 10 patient transports at this time from the 9-alarm fire on Beacon Street.
Update on Beacon St. Fire 3: We are learning 5 firefighters have been injured with one seriously.
Update on Beacon St. Fire 2: Motorists & pedestrians asked to avoid area around 298
Beacon St due to fire. 
Update on Beacon St Fire: Boston EMS has transported 8 patients to area hospitals. Storrow drive is closed east bound from Mass Ave to Charles Circle.
UPDATE: Over 150 firefighters are on scene fighting the flames. 
Boston PD says: Beacon St closed from Arlington St to Mass Ave due to a building fire. Please seek alternate routes. Boston EMS confirms 4 transports to area hospitals. This is still an active incident.
BREAKING NEWS: Boston, Massachusetts - The Boston Fire Department is battling a nine alarm fire at 298 Beacon St in the Back Bay.

Boston fire department responded to 298 Beacon St. at 2:43 p.m. for a heavy fire that has resulted in upgrading it to a 9 alarm.

The fire began in the basement of the four-story brownstone building. Thick smoke could be seen coming from the building throughout Boston according to MyFoxBoston.

Boston EMS reports that at least two firefighters have been injured. It is unclear if all firefighters have been accounted for.

We will bring you more on this breaking news out of Boston as it becomes available.
