Mark Shilansky's Fugue Mill @ The Dance Hall

All-star musicians fuse Jazz, Americana, World and Classical music
Kittery, Maine - On Saturday, March 22, 2014, the incredibly talented and versatile musician, composer and arranger Mark Shilansky will return to The Dance Hall with his band of music makers, an all-star cast, as Fugue Mill.

Fugue Mill weaves Jazz through the fabric of Americana, World, and Classical Music, creating a complex and inspired blend of musical and improvisational styles. Original group pieces are featured side by side with music by such composers as Leonard Cohen and Samuel Barber. Violin and Mandolin augment the quartet of piano, guitar, bass, and drums, creating a transparent and vibrant palette of improvisation and counterpoint. Band members have been featured with such artists as Luciana Souza, Esperanza Spalding, and Regina Spektor, and bring this experience to their collaboration.

Throughout his creative career as a pianist and composer, Mark Shilansky, an assistant professor at Berklee College of Music,  has been a consistent presence as a sideman: as a member of the Luciana Souza quintet and as an accompanist of vocalists, such as Lisa Thorson, The New York Voices, Kris Adams, Carolyn Leonhart, Rebecca Parris, and Patrice Williamson. Mark is a strong presence on vocalist Chris Humphrey's debut CD "Nothin' But Blue Skies,"  and has been the pianist and  arranger for the vocal jazz group Syncopation, appearing on the band's CDs and accompanying them on tours of the US and Japan. He is producer/arranger/pianist on the upcoming debut CD by the Group ESP Vocal Trio, featuring Patrice Williamson, Emily Browder, and Sandi Hammond and contributes piano and an original song “All in My Heart,” to New York Voices Soprano Kim Nazarian’s upcoming debut CD.

Shilansky has kept active as a sideman with instrumentalists, as well, notably with guitarist Steve Kirby (playing piano and organ on his North Light CD); trumpeter Kenny Wheeler (with concerts at the Regattabar and New York's Birdland); and on drummer David Jamrog's Visions, a collective group featuring saxist George Garzone. He is also in demand in the recording studio as a Producer/Arranger as well as a performer with a growing list of artists (singer/songwriters as well as jazz artists); on CDs by Kaye Kelly, Celia Slattery, Dana Edelman, Christina Watson, Lauren Wool, and Michelle Mailhot.
