Mr. Robie will introduce the concept of vermiculture, a method of composting waste using earthworms, during this three-hour workshop. Vermiculture is an ecologically sound, cost-efficient, and odorless way to breakdown kitchen waste into helpful soil amendments which can be done indoors on a small scale. Along with a presentation on how vermiculture works, participants will receive instruction on how to build their own vermiculture worm bin, and finish the day by constructing their own worm bins. Worms will not be provided, but guests will receive information on how to obtain them, as well as on-going follow-up and troubleshooting assistance for new worm farmers.
Jock Robie founded Mainely Worm bins in 2011 after keeping worms for the past four years. He provides
his vermiculture classes as a public service and has presented all over the east coast between Virginia and Maine.
This class is part of the Weekend Workshop series at Merryspring, sponsored by Camden Real-Estate. The cost of this workshop is $10 for Merryspring members and $15 for non-members.
