Mayor Macdonald Urges Residents to Stay Home During Storm

Lewiston, Maine - Lewiston Mayor Robert Macdonald is urging residents to stay at home and off the streets during the worst of the storm predicted to hit Friday evening through Saturday morning.  “Given the forecast for heavy snow, high winds, and blizzard conditions, I urge everyone to stay inside during this storm.  While our crews will be working hard to keep the streets open, we will need all the help we can get.  Help yourself and help us by staying home.”

Forecasters are predicting potential snowfall rates of one to three inches per hour along with strong winds gusting to 50 miles per hour, particularly overnight on Friday and into Saturday morning.  This will create hazardous conditions with limited visibility.

According to Lewiston’s Public Works Director Dave Jones, “It takes our crews six to eight hours to complete their plow routes.  If the forecast is correct, there will be times tonight when there are six to eight or more inches of snow on our roads with much higher amounts in drifts.  Many streets may become periodically impassable.  We urge everyone to stay safe at home.”

Residents are reminded to call 911 in case of an emergency.  Public Works will coordinate closely with Police, Fire, and Emergency Medical Services to ensure that responders will be able to operate throughout the City.
