Red Sox to Host Rally at Hadlock Field at 11:00 AM
Portland, Maine - The Boston Red Sox will be bringing the 2004, 2007, and 2013 World Series trophies to Hadlock Field on Saturday, January 25th from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM.  Additionally, the Red Sox will host a brief rally at Hadlock Field on Saturday to celebrate the 2013 championship.  The event is free and open to the public.

The Red Sox rally will take place on the front plaza at Hadlock Field at 11:00 AM.  Taking part in the rally will be Senator George Mitchell along with Dr. Charles Steinberg, Red Sox Executive Vice President & Senior Advisor to the President/ CEO, and Dick Flavin, Fenway Park public address announcer and Poet Laureate of Red Sox Nation.  Slugger the Sea Dog and Wally the Green Monster will also be in attendance.

Following the rally, the World Series trophies will be available for viewing in the Portland Room at Hadlock Field until 2:00 PM.

The Sea Dogs have served as the Red Sox Double-A affiliate since 2003.  The 2013 Red Sox World Series roster featured 17 players that played for the Sea Dogs including two players that started the season in Portland; Brandon Workman and Xander Bogaerts.

BOSTON, Massachusetts - The Boston Red Sox has just won the World Series against the Cardinals by a score of  6-1, first at FENWAY since 1918.

World Series Off To Strong Start

Building off the momentum from a Postseason that saw TV ratings increase for every round, Game 1 of the World Series delivered a significant audience on television and dominated the conversation on social media, topping all competition in both areas by a wide margin.

Game 1 drew 14.4 million viewers, up +18% over Game 1 in 2012 and ranking as the most watched World Series opener since 2010, despite the lopsided victory by the Red Sox. The game drew an 8.6fast national rating according to Nielsen, leading FOX to an easy win in primetime and topping the second place network by +37% in the metered markets. Viewership peaked during the second inning with 16.9 million viewers before the Red Sox pulled away.

In Boston, the game drew a 39.7 rating, the highest mark for a Red Sox game since Game 7 of the 2008 ALCS. In St. Louis, the game drew a 36.0 rating, best for any Cardinals game since Game 6 of the 2012 NLCS. In both markets, the rating peaked early in the game before the score became lopsided.

The game was also the most talked about television program all day on Wednesday by a very wide margin. According to data from SocialGuide, the game drew 793,332 tweets from 359,992 authors, more than three times as many as the next most talked about show (+252%). Carlos Beltran was mentioned in more than 63,000 tweets, topping all players.

Game 2 of the World Series tonight begins at 8:00pm ET on FOX.

Mary J. Blige to Perform National Anthem Prior to Game One on FOX

MLB will highlight support for the military, specifically through the Welcome Back Veterans, initiative, by dedicating Game One of the 2013 World Series to honoring veterans and military families. There will be a special pre-game ceremony recognizing three living Medal of Honor recipients, including Salvatore Giunta (Medal of Honor received November 16, 2010), Clinton Romesha (Medal of Honor received February 11, 2013) and William Swenson (Medal of Honor received October 15, 2013). Hall of Famer and Boston Red Sox Legend Carl Yastrzemski will join these men on the field for the ceremonial first pitch. The pre-game will also include iconic Grammy Award-winning singer, songwriter, actress and philanthropist Mary J. Blige performing the National Anthem. Game One of the 109th Fall Classic between the American League Champion Boston Red Sox and the National League Champion St. Louis Cardinals airs on Wednesday, October 23rd at 7:30 p.m. ET on FOX.

WELCOME BACK VETERANS: Launched in 2008, Major League Baseball and the Robert R. McCormick Foundation have committed more than $28 million to Welcome Back Veterans (WelcomeBackVeterans.org). To date, a total of $15 million in grants has been awarded to non- profit agencies and hospitals supporting returning Iraq and Afghanistan veterans' and their families' greatest needs, focusing on treatment and research of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and traumatic brain injury (TBI). The Red Sox Foundation and Massachusetts General Hospital Home Base Program is supported by Welcome Back Veterans.

BANK OF AMERICA SUPPORT: Bank of America, the Official Bank of Major League Baseball, will provide American flags for fans at each Fenway Park entrance, and asks those in attendance to wave the flag during God Bless America (before the bottom of the 7th inning) as an expression of thanks to our troops. Bank of America will donate $1 on behalf of each participating fan to Welcome Back Veterans and the Wounded Warrior Project in an effort to reach a total donation of $1 million, which will go toward helping service members and veterans succeed here at home. Bank of America's "Express Your Thanks" initiative, which re-launched on Memorial Day 2013, aims to help support members of the military and veterans across the country by donating $1 for each expression of thanks. PERFORMANCES: Grammy Award-winning singer, songwriter, actress and philanthropist Mary J. Blige will perform the National Anthem prior to Game One. Blige, who previously performed the National Anthem at Yankee Stadium during the 2009 World Series, recently released her first-ever holiday album, A Mary Christmas, with legendary producer David Foster. Singing "God Bless America" before the bottom of the 7th inning will be Retired United States Marine Corps Sgt. Dan Clark.

PLAY BALL!: Jacoby Miller, the five-year-old son of U.S. Air Force Captain Garrett Miller, who is currently deployed in Afghanistan, will yell "Play Ball!" before the start of Game One. The Millers are from Glastonbury, CT.

FIRST-BALL DELIVERY: Deon Singletary, 14, from the West End House Boys and Girls Club (Allston, Massachusetts) will deliver the first-ball to the mound. He will be joined by three- time MLB All-Star and Red Sox Legend Luis Tiant. Singletary is a freshman at Another Course to College in Brighton, MA.

RED SOX EXTEND AFFILIATION WITH SEA DOGS

The Boston Red Sox Extend the Player Development Contract with the Portland Sea Dogs through the 2018 Season
Portland, Maine - The Boston Red Sox and Portland Sea Dogs have agreed to extend their Player Development Contract (PDC) for an additional four years.  The extension keeps the Red Sox Double-A affiliation in Portland through the 2018 season.  Red Sox Director of Player Development Ben Crockett and Sea Dogs' Chairman Bill Burke made the announcement.

The Sea Dogs and Red Sox last extended the affiliation in January of 2011, when a two year extension was announced, taking the contract through the 2014 season.

"As we prepare for our 20th season of Sea Dogs baseball we are thrilled to announce this new agreement," said Bill Burke, chairman of the Sea Dogs.  "It is an honor to be associated with the Boston Red Sox, one of the greatest franchises in professional sports, and we are pleased to let our incredible fans know that this relationship will continue well into the future."

Sally Burke McNamara, the team's treasurer added, "We feel incredibly fortunate to have the opportunity to continue the legacy our father created, and our partnership with the Red Sox is a cornerstone of that legacy.

Boston Red Sox to Celebrate Maine Day

Sunday, August 26th is Maine Appreciation Day at Fenway Park

Augusta, Maine - Maine Day at Fenway Park will be held on Sunday, August 26th, 2012 when the Red Sox face the Kansas City Royals. Governor Paul LePage has proclaimed Sunday as Maine Red Sox Day throughout the State of Maine, and urges all citizens to recognize this observance.

“We have plenty of Red Sox fans in our State and Sunday gives us an opportunity to display that pride and show off a little of what Maine has to offer,” said Governor LePage.

Boston Red Sox Fenway Park opened on April 20, 1912 making this year its 100th anniversary. Many of the participants of the Pre-Game Ceremonies on Maine Day will be residents of the State, including the National Anthem performer (Michaela Boissoneault, Portland, ME) and the presenters of the Honor Guard (Maine State Police).

The proclamation language is as follows:

WHEREAS, the people of Maine are both entertained and inspired by demonstrations of athletic excellence and take great pride in the achievements of the Boston Red Sox; and

WHEREAS, Maine represents a part of Red Sox Nation, with thousands of loyal fans from the Pine Tree State; and

WHEREAS, thousands of Mainers have celebrated the Boston Red Sox as World Series Champions in 1903, 1912, 1915, 1916, 1918, 2004 and 2007; and

WHEREAS, Maine native, Bob Stanley, led the Red Sox team in saves with 131 until 2009; and

WHEREAS, Mainers, also known as Fenway Faithful, celebrate America’s Most Beloved Ballpark during its 100th Anniversary throughout the 2012 season; and

WHEREAS, the Portland Sea Dogs, an Eastern League Double-A team, located in Maine’s largest city, is the Red Sox Minor League team which provides Mainers with a unique opportunity for quality entertainment for the entire family.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, PAUL R. LEPAGE, Governor of the State of Maine, do hereby proclaim Sunday, August 26, 2012 to be Maine Red Sox Day throughout the State of Maine, and urge all citizens to recognize this observance.
