Huskies Fall to Statesmen in NEHC Quarterfinal

GENEVA, New York – Zach Tyson had two goals and an assist to help lead the Hobart College Statesmen over the University of Southern Maine Huskies 5-2 in a New England Hockey Conference quarterfinal game on Saturday in Geneva.

Score: Hobart 5, Southern Maine 2


History: This was the 10th meeting between the two programs. The Statesmen now lead the series 10-1.


The Records: Southern Maine: 8-14-1, 5-10-1 NEHC; Hobart: 19-4-2, 13-2-2


The Goaltenders: Anthony D’Aloisio (Frisco, Texas/Texas Jr. Brahmas): 35 saves, .875 save percentage; Liam Lascelle (Cornwall, ON): 22 saves, .917 save percentage.


How It Happened/Inside the Box Score: 

-Tyson scored his first goal of the game in the 15th minute of play to give Hobart an early 1-0 lead. The Huskies answered right back as with time running down in the first period, Brendan Dowler (New Preston, Conn/Shepaug Valley) took a pass from Curtis Judd (Newton, Mass./Albany Academy) and found the back of the net.


-The score didn’t stay tied for long as the Statesmen piled on three more goals in the second period. Chase Bell (Lethbridge, AB) and Jonah Alexander (Toronto, ON) each scored, and Tyson added his second of the night.


-Down 4-1, Dowler struck again to bring the Huskies back into the game when he scored on a power play opportunity with just over five minutes to play.


-A man-up after a USM penalty, Austin Mourar (Spring City, Pa.) put the game away when he scored in the 17th minute of play to bring the score to 5-2.


-The Statesmen narrowly edged out the Huskies on faceoffs, winning 34-of-67.
