Burnell, Kane Picked as 2021 Golf Team Captains

GORHAM, Maine – The University of Southern Maine, golf head coach Reg Grant is thrilled to announce the selections of his team co-captains for the 2021 fall season. Their leadership group will consist of junior Carter Burnell (Biddeford, ME) and senior Brogan Kane (Scarborough, ME).
Burnell is a three-year member of the Husky
men’s golf program and a finance major. Last year during the Little East Conference Championship, Burnell totaled a 170 (+26) across the two rounds and moved up three slots in the final rankings to eighth place dropping four strokes off his day one scorecard. He tallied a 76 score twice at the Husson Invitational and during a head-to-head battle with the Saint Joseph’s College of Maine.
“Carter is a dedicated golf junkie who works endlessly to improve an already solid game,” said Grant. “He quietly leads by example daily. His character and demeanor are appreciated and respected by all. He’s a teammate with dimension.”
Kane, an economics/finance major is a four-year Husky. At the LEC Championship last year, Kane recorded a two-round 176 (+32) and played his best golf during the second round subtracting six strokes from his score. At the Husson Invitational, Kane put up a season-low 82 (+12) for a share of 11th place.
“Brogan has matured into this leadership role while improving his game, being available and inclusive to all USM golfers,” said Grant. “His care for the program and teammates is commendable. He makes a very hard game fun.”
The golf program opened up its season Wednesday morning with a head-to-head against the Saint Joseph’s College of Maine. The Huskies tied with the Monks 302-302 but lost off the fifth score tiebreaker 84-to-87.
