Men’s Cross Country Takes First Again At Thomas College Invite

WATERVILLE, Maine – The no. 9 regionally-ranked University of Southern Maine men’s cross country team dominated the competition at the Thomas College Cross Country Invitational to bring home their second first-place showing this year on Saturday morning.


RESULTS 


The Huskies recorded 33 total points, 30 points

less than runner-up Husson University for the team title in the eight kilometer race. Three athletes placed within the top five led by team captain Cody Mathewson (Lebanon, CT) who placed second, eight seconds behind first-place finisher Joel Bond of Husson. Mathewson crossed the tape at 29:43.8 while fellow team captain Masho Gebremikael (Portland, ME) was three seconds behind him in third place at 29:46.2. Junior Jacob Gamache (Auburn, ME) rounded out the top-five showings at 30:03.1.

 

Finishing just outside the top 10 was freshman Jordan Duplessie (Caribou, ME) in 11th place at 31:04.5. Sophomore Jack Pecoraro (Westbrook, ME) and freshman Matthew Pooler (Waterboro, ME) finished in the top-20 in 15th (32:10.7) and 18th (32:17.5) place respectively. Junior Erik Larkin (Scarborough, ME) also factored into the team scoring at 32:43.1 good enough for 21st place.

 

Freshman Anthony O’Donnell (Portland, ME) (33:27.0), sophomore Cameron Nelson (Damariscotta, ME) (34:03.7), freshman Andrew Seile (Glenburn, ME) (35:08.3) and sophomore Zack McAllister (Winthrop, ME) (36:04.2) all competed for USM as well with Larkin factoring into the scoring.

 

The navy and gold will return to the course next Saturday, September 18th in their final tune-up before the Maine State Championships. The Huskies will compete at the University of Massachusetts - Dartmouth Invitational with a 10:30 a.m. gun start.
