Rd. Back Open: BREAKING: Rt. 90 Shut Down Due To 2-Vehicle Head On

Update from Knox County Sheriff’s Office, on July 2 at approximately 3 p.m., a 2011 Acura sports utility vehicle operated by Joshua Hatch, 47, of Austin Texas was heading south on Route 1 slowing to turn left onto the Sterling Road in the area of Lie Nielsen Toolworks. A 2013 Kia Forte, operated by Amber Schmaling, 42, of Standish, was also traveling south on Route 1 behind the Acura and struck the Acura as it slowed in traffic.


Hatch and the five passengers of the Acura were treated and released at the scene for their injuries. Schmaling and the one passenger of the Kia were taken to Pen Bay Medical Center in Rockport for their injuries.


Both vehicles were towed due to disabling damage.


The incident is still under investigation but operator inattention is believed to be a contributing factor.


The Sheriff’s Office was assisted by Knox Regional Communications Center, Warren Fire and EMS, Waldoboro EMS and Hillside Towing.


Update 3:49pm: Rt. 90 is back open.


Update 3:29pm: Warren rescue is transporting one to Pen Bay.


Update 3:20pm: Use caution if driving by Lie-Nielsen Toolworks on Rt. 1. as there is a 2-vehicle accident in Warren.


Update 3:13pm: Northeast transported 2 to Pen Bay, one meeting Lifeflight at Pen Bay.


Update 2:56pm: Rockport car 1 is asking for Lifeflight to Pen Bay.


BREAKING: Rockport, Maine - Rt. 90 by 440 West Street (Rt. 90) is shut down due to 2-vehicle head on accident Friday afternoon in Rockport, Maine.


Heavy damage, injuries reported by unit on scene.
