Portland Firefighters Respond to Presumpscot Street Building Fire

PORTLAND, Maine – On Friday, June 11, 2021 at 2:08 AM, the Portland Regional Communications Center received a call from a passing motorist reporting that Design Concepts located at 160 Presumpscot Street was on fire.

Portland firefighters were alerted at 2:10 AM and

arrived within minutes to find an active fire inside a 26,000 square warehouse. Crews made an aggressive interior attack but the fire had a significant head start and already had extended into the roof line. The single story portion of the building was heavily involved with fire and eventually extended into the two story section of the building. Portland firefighters spent several hours attempting to bring the fire under control. Deputy Fire Chief Chad Johnston ultimately struck the third alarm at 2:44 AM bringing every Portland Fire Company in the city to the fire. Portland Firefighters were assisted on scene by a Westbrook Engine Company and Falmouth Ladder Company. Numerous other mutual departments responded to staff the empty Portland firehouses.

The single story portion of the building is a total loss and the two story section sustained substantial fire damage. There were no injuries reported to civilians as the building was unoccupied at the time of the fire. One Portland firefighter was transported to the hospital with minor injuries and was eventually released.

The Portland Fire Department’s Fire Investigation Team is still on scene investigating the cause of the fire. At this time, the fire is still under investigation.
