Rockland Public Library: Help with Mural Creation at the Library

Rockland, Maine - The Rockland Public Library and community artist Alexis Iammarino invite the community to participate in working on a new mural for the Library.

Alexis and the Library have engaged a group of young artists enrolled in RASA's Arts in Action Club to design and create original art for the Library this Fall/Winter. Arts in Action is a RASA–––RSU13 Adult & Community Education's Rockland's After-school Alliance–––club that connects opportunities for youth and community members to collaborate on mural and public art projects. Since 2013, Teaching Artist Alexis has worked with an array of talented and committed young artists in RASA to create murals and other small art projects with local organizations, including Hope Elephants, Rockland District Middle School (RDMS), the Rockland Rec. Center, and The Good Tern Co-Op.

Alexis also runs SaturdayStudio and will be hosting workshops at the Rec. Center and Library the following Saturdays, for the broader community to participate in executing and contributing to the mural. The community is invited to help work on mural preparations during Saturday workshops at the Library in the Community Room 12:30pm-3:30pm on November 14th  and December 19th. Saturday workshops will also take place at the Rockland Rec. Tower Room from 12:30-3:30 on November 21st.

Another way to participate is to drop by the library (or head to the Facebook page -https://www.facebook.com/Rockland-Public-Library-60836427783/) and share a word or two or three which describe what the library means to you. These may become part of a word cloud background of the mural.

For more information, please call the Library at 594-0310.
