STANDISH, Maine – The Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) and Maine Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (MWBCA) weekly accolades have been released and a pair of Saint Joseph’s College players have earned honors from both organizations.
Senior center Morgan Cahill (Yarmouth, Maine) has collected GNAC Player and MWBCA Co-Player of the Week awards and freshman point guard Kelsi McNamara (West Newbury, Mass.) has been selected as the GNAC Rookie and MWBCA Co-Rookie of the Week.
Cahill averaged 21.5 points, 6.0 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 1.0 blocks per contest in a 2-0 week for the Monks. The senior center dropped 28 points with six boards and four assists in a victory over Husson University on Thursday and added 15 points with six caroms and three dimes in just 19 minutes on the floor in a triumph over Maine Maritime Academy on Saturday. For the week, Cahill shot 56% (14-25) from the floor and 93.8% (15-16) from the free throw line.
McNamara averaged 16.5 points, 3.0 assists, 2.0 steals and 2.0 rebounds per game in two contests for the Monks last week. The freshman point guard shot 61.1% (11-18) from the floor, 70% (7-10) from downtown and 66.7% (4-6) from the FT line in the pair of contests with 18 points in a win over Husson University on Thursday and 15 against Maine Maritime Academy on Saturday.
For Cahill, the GNAC Player of the Week honor is the second of her career and the MWBCA accolade is the third of her three-plus collegiate campaigns.
The GNAC honor is a career-first for McNamara, who was also selected as the MWBCA Rookie of the Week last Monday.
Saint Joseph’s (4-1) will host University of Southern Maine in the Annual Costello Cup matchup on Sunday night at 5:30 PM.
