Castleton, Vt. - The Eastern Collegiate Football Conference (ECFC) announced the 2015 All-Conference teams on Monday afternoon, sophomore running back John Smith and senior inside linebacker Bryant Wade have been named ECFC Offense and Defense Players of the Year, while being named to the All-ECFC first team.
Joining Smith and Wade on the All-ECFC first team were Eagle teammates, senior left tackle Matt Archer, and senior nose guardMatt Pellerin, while junior wide receiver Deon Wiggins, sophomore wide receiver Robenson Saintard, sophomore defensive tackleLuke Washburn, junior inside linebacker Ellis Throckmorton and junior cornerback Marquis Jiminez were named to the second team.
Earning All-ECFC Honorable Mention honors were junior safety Alonzo Connor, senior defensive end Ian Palmer, senior quarterback Joe Seccareccia and junior return specialist Wiggins.
Smith rewrote the record book this past season as he broke nine single-season school records: rushing yards (1,733), rushing attempts (296), rushing touchdowns (20), rushing yards per game (173.3), total offense yards (1,733), touchdowns responsible for (22), all-purpose yards (1,829), total points scored (134), and touchdowns scored (22) and two single-game school records: rushing yards (276), and all-purpose yards (299) in the lost to Salve Regina.
He led the entire conference in rushes, yards, yards per rush (5.9), and touchdowns, while surpassing
the 100-yard mark in all but two contests, tying his single-season record of eight which was set just last season and the 200-yard mark twice. He now has 16 100-yard rushing games in his career, leaving him one shy of the career mark.

This season Smith became the first Eagle player in program history to score 100 points in a single-season and the second player in program history to surpass the 3,000-yard career rushing plateau and now has 3,141 in just two seasons. He needs 451 rushing yards to become the all-time career leader. Smith also became the third player to exceed 3,000 career yards of total offense and all-purpose yards and the second player to score 200 points in program history.
Wade anchored an Eagle defensive unit that allowed the fewest points (17.6), yards (226.1), and rushing yards (60.4) per game. Wade led the conference with three fumble recoveries on the season while collecting 69 tackles. He also became the single-season record holder in assisted tackles (45).
He will finish his career ranked among the all-time leaders in fumble returns yards (34), fumble returns (2), total tackles (184), unassisted tackles (110), assisted tackles (74), tackles for loss (17.0), yards from tackles for loss (59), fumbles forced (5), and the career leader in fumbles recovered (8).
As a captain, Archer anchored a line that produced single-season records for total offense (4,206), point scored (374), and passing touchdowns (24) and cleared the way for the ECFC's leading rusher in Smith and the best passer in Seccareccia.
Pellerin help anchored an Eagle defensive unit that allowed the fewest points, yards, and rushing yards per game while collecting 39 tackles, 1 sack and 1 forced fumble on the season. He record a total of 79 tackles, 37 unassisted tackles, 42 assisted tackles, 14 tackles for loss and 4 sacks while playing in 19 games in his career at Husson.
Saintard tied the single-season record for receptions (33) and receptions per game (3.30) in 2015 and was second on the team with six touchdowns.
Wiggins became the all-time career leader in receiving touchdowns (14), punt return yards (253) and set the single-season record for receiving touchdowns (8), punt return yards (253) and tied the record for most punt return touchdowns in a season with 1. He also set the following single-game records for most passes caught (9), highest average gain per reception (33.5), most punt returns (7) and most punt return yards (85).
Washburn notched 38 tackles to put him sixth on the team, while collecting 3.5 sacks, 10.5 tackles for loss to help anchor an Eagle defensive unit that allowed the fewest points, yards, and rushing yards per game in the conference.
As a captain, Throckmorton became the all-time career in assisted tackles (94) in 2015. He recorded a team-high 77 tackles, while adding 1.5 sacks and 7 tackles for loss to help anchor an Eagle defensive unit that allowed the fewest points, yards, and rushing yards per game in the conference.
Jiminez notched 2.3 tackles per game to go with five pass breakups, one interception to lead a defense that gave up the fewest points, yards, and rushing yards per game in the conference.
Connor ranked third on the team with 49 tackles with 2.5 sacks and 6.5 tackles for loss. He added one interception to go with three pass breakups.
Palmer recorded 34 tackles to go along with his 2 sacks and one forced fumbles in 2015. He notched a total of 80 tackles, 32 unassisted, 48 assisted, while adding 4.5 sacks and 14 tackles for loss in 36 career games played.
Seccareccia rewrote the record book this past season as he broke five single-season school records: passing touchdowns (19), pass completion percentage (57.4), pass efficiency (149.1), passing yards per game (180.9), touchdowns responsible for (22) and total offense per game (197.8), tied the single-season record for the lowest number of interceptions (6) thrown by any Eagle quarterback who has thrown over 100 passes in a season and two single-game school records: passes completed (24), and highest average gained per play (10.8).
He will finish his career ranked among the all-time leaders: rushing yards (546), rushing attempts (166), rushing touchdowns (7), rushing yards per game (20.2), pass attempts (499), passing yards (3,336), passes had intercepted (19), average yards per pass (6.7), average yards per completion (12.7), touchdowns responsible for (44), total offense per game (143.8), total offense per play (5.84) ), and the career leader in total offense yards (3,882), passing yards per game (123.6), pas completion percentage (52.7), pass completions (263), and passing touchdowns (37).
The Eastern Collegiate Football Conference announced its 2015 all-conference teams following a vote of the conference coaches. A total of 79 student-athletes received recognition after the completion of the regular season.

Norwich junior kicker/punter Wesley Medeiros was named the ECFC Special Teams Player of the Year. Medeiros led the conference with a dozen field goals, ranked third among kickers with 59 points and fifth with 23 successful point-after tries. In addition to his scoring role, Medeiros also handled punting duties for the Cadets ranking second in punts inside the 20 yard line (12) and fair catches (15) while averaging 33.8 yards per punt. | Castleton sophomore Eric Decker was named the ECFC Offensive Lineman of the Year. Decker anchored a Spartan offensive line that pushed its way to 363.8 yards and 26.9 points per contest while allowing the third fewest sacks league wide. | ||
ROOKIE OF THE YEAR | COACH OF THE YEAR | ||
Castleton first year running back Moe Harris was named the ECFC Rookie of the Year. Harris ranked second in the conference in attempts (211), yards (1,065) and touchdowns (14), finishing the season with nine straight games over 100 all-purpose yards. The freshman back ran for over 100 yards in six games and scored at least one touchdown in eight out of ten games. Harris also led the league in kickoff returns, averaging 27.7 yards per return. | Becker head coach Mike Lichten was honored as the ECFC Coach of the Year award after leading Becker. Lichten orchestrated an impressive six-win turnaround from a season ago, as the Hawks finished 7-3, 5-2 with non-conference wins over MIT and Nichols. |
