LEWISTON, Maine - The Lewiston CareerCenter is offering no-cost programs throughout December to help job seekers improve skills and get back into the workforce.
"We have over 9,000 jobs listed this month on Maine's Job Bank," said Governor Paul R. LePage. "Mainers looking for work should visit our CareerCenters for no-cost assistance. The staff can help you register and use the Job Bank in your job search, write a proper resume, and prepare for the job interview. I encourage you to visit your local CareerCenter to find the workshops that meet your needs."

Job Fair: December 7, 10 a.m. to noon
Twenty-plus employers, all of whom are hiring, will be on hand to talk with job seekers. Be prepared
with a resume and to have an "interview-like" conversation; and, dress to impress!
GATEway to Employment: December 3 and 17, 2 to 4 p.m.
An overview of basic information on resumes, interviews and job search skills, as well as CareerCenter and community resources available to you during your job search. Learn how the CareerCenter can help you! Registration required.
Job Search Skills/Criminal History: December 8, 2 to 4 p.m.
The first hour, open to everyone, will give you the tools you need to be successful in your job search. We will discuss strategies you can use to highlight your skills and set yourself apart from the others-it's all about marketing yourself!
The second hour will be for those with a criminal history and will focus on how to sell your skills rather than your background, tips on answering difficult questions and ideas to encourage employers to give you a chance.
Resumés Basics and Build a Resume Workshop: December 10, 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Lewiston CareerCenter, and December 30, 2 to 4:30 p.m. at the Lewiston Public Library
Learn the basic do's and don'ts of resume writing; how to stand out in a positive way by marketing yourself-on paper-in a way that directly matches employer needs. Computers will be available and you will be able to compose a resume with staff assistance. Participants must be able to type your own resumé.
Interview Skills/Mock Interviews: December 17, 2:30 to 4:30 p.m.
Attend this workshop to learn the basics about interviewing and to get the tools you need to feel comfortable in an interview. Session will include a brief overview and mock interviews so that you can practice, get feedback and observe other participants!
New Mainers Workshop: How to Complete a Paper and Online Job Applications: December 17, 9 to 11 a.m.
Somali interpreters will be on hand. If other language interpreters are needed, please request by December 4.
Curious About Career Options?
Career Decision Making: December 14 (part I) and 18 (part II), 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
A two-part workshop designed to help you review the factors involved in making career decisions, the assessment tools used and other resources. Apply the information you gain from assessments to identify career and training steps to achieve career goals (Must do required assessments before second day of workshop). Registration required.

Essentials of College Planning for Adults
Basic steps for successful college enrollment: learn about colleges and trade schools, entrance requirements, readiness and transitional issues of adult students, admissions procedures and financial aid. Bring last year's income tax forms to the appointment. Register by calling 1-800-281-3703.
Orientation for People with Disabilities - December 23, 2 to 3 p.m.
For people with disabilities who are considering vocational rehabilitation services. Service providers are also welcome to attend. Registration not required.
CareerCenters, part of the Maine Department of Labor, offer a variety of services to help people find employment or upgrade skills. Each center provides several public-access computer workstations with Microsoft Office software, resume writing and cover letter software, Internet access and O'Net software for skills assessment. All CareerCenter services are free of charge.
