BANGOR, Maine – Raheem Anderson scored 22 points and dished out six assists to lead Husson University in a men's basketball exhibition game against the University of Maine on Saturday, Nov. 7 at the Cross Center. The Eagles fell to the Black Bears 93-79 in a hard-fought game.
UMaine began the game on a 6-0 run, but Husson answered right back to tie the game at 6-6 after a pair of free throws and a jumper by Anderson. He then drained a three-point field goal to give the Eagles their first lead of the game at 11-8. The teams continued to trade hoops the next few minutes.
The Black Bears pushed the lead to 10 points on a pair of back-to-back three-point field goals by
Troy Reid-Knight late in the first half. Husson ended the half on a five point run of its own to pull to within five points at 43-38.
Anderson led the offensive attack in the first half for the Eagles with 13 points, while Trevon Butler pulled down six rebounds.
Maine scored six straight points to open the second half, but Zach Curran stopped the run with a layup. The teams continued to trade hoops, before Husson cut the deficit to six points with back-to-back shots by Anderson and Trevon Butler.
Maine used a 10-0 run to extend its lead to 68-52, however, Husson answered back with a 10-4 run of its own. Anderson led charge with eight straight points for the Eagles. Maine countered with a 7-0 run to extend the lead to 79-62.
Husson then scored five straight points to cut the deficit to 12 points and then pulled to within 10 points on a layup by Darryl Wood with 1:53 remaining in the game, how they could get no closer.
Anderson led the way for the Eagles with 22 points, including five three-point field goals. He dished out a game-high six assists. Trevon Butler added a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds. He also had five steals in 36 minutes of action.
Till Gloger and Issac Van each had 22 points in the game for the Black Bears.
The Eagles return to action on Thursday, Nov. 19 when they travel to St. Joseph's. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30 PM.
