DANBURY, Conn. – Coming off their second-straight ECFC Regular Season championship, the Husson University football team has been selected to play in the 2015 Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) 2015 Division III Football Clayton Chapman Bowl Championships against Salve Regina University on Nov 20th at Arute Field on the Campus of Central Connecticut State University in New Britain, Conn and will face Salve Regina University. This is the second time in program history the Eagles have been selected to play in a ECAC Bowl Game.
The Eagles (7-2) are led by their four captains seniors Matt Archer and Josiah Hartley and juniors Ellis Throckmorton and Rick Orio. On the offensive side of the ball, senior quarterback Joe Seccareccia leads the team in passing yards (1,447), completions (108), attempts (188), completion percentage (57.4), passing touchdowns (19) and touchdowns responsible for (21, 19 pass, 3 rush). On the ground, sophomore running back, John Smith leads the league in attempts (262), yards (1,457), yards per game (161.9), avg (5.6) and touchdowns (17). Deon Wiggins and Robenson Saintard have been Seccareccia main targets this season. Wiggins has caught 23 passes for 375 yards with 8 touchdowns. Saintard has caught 33 passes for 290 yards with 6 touchdowns.
On the defensive side of the ball the 5th ranked Eagle defensive has been led all season by Throckmorton and Bryant Wade. Throckmorton has record a team high 67 tackles (32 solo, 35 assisted), 1.5 sacks, 6.5 tackles for loss and has forced 2 fumbles on the season, while Wade has piled up 60 total tackles (22 solo, 38 assisted), 0.5 sacks, 7.5 tackles for loss, forced 2 fumbles and has recovered a team high 3 fumbles. Tarik Smith leads the team in sacks with three. Luke Washburn has record a team high 9.5 tackles for loss, while Kenny Sweet leads the team with three interceptions.
Husson averages 417 yards of total offensive (226.9 rush, 190.1 pass) and 37.2 points per game, while only allowing 200.7 yards (63.3 rush, 137.3) and 14.9 points per game on defensive.
Salve Regina (7-2) finshed as the runner-up in the New England Football Conference to Western New England University are led on the offensive side of ball by junior quarterback Brandan Basil (155-of-266 for 2,115 yards and 27 touchdowns), junior running back Sam Pascale (229 rushes, 1,448 yards and 12 touchdowns) and senior wide reciever Alex Hulme (62 receptions, 1,018 yards and 13 touchdowns). On the defensive side of the ball the Seahawks are led by senior linebacker Danny Ives (75 total tackles, 2.5 sacks, 5.5 tackles for loss). Senior defensive lineman Joe Cuccia leads the team with 5.5 sacks and 7.5 tackles for loss while junior defensive back Joey Farrar has record a team high 4 interceptions.
Salve Regina averages 469.1 yards of total offensive (226.8 rush, 242.3 pass) and 36.1 points per game, while only allowing 282.1 yards (112.6 rush, 169.6 pass) and 19.1 points per game on defensive.
The ECAC has announced the pairings for the 2015 Division III Football Bowl Championships to be held Nov. 20-22 at a pre-determined neutral site for the first time in Conference history. All six games will be played at Central Connecticut State University in New Britain, and will be broadcast live through Pack Network.
