BRUNSWICK, Maine - The Bowdoin College women's rugby team completed a
perfect regular season and earned the top seed, and hosting rights, for
the 2015 New England Small College Rugby Conference championship this
weekend at Pickard Field.
The Polar Bears have won the championship in all three years since the
formation of the league and will be facing Tufts in the title match
Saturday at 12:30 p.m. Their match will be preceded by the third-place
contest between the University of Maine-Orono and Colby at 11:00 a.m.
It will be the third consecutive year that the Polar Bears and Jumbos
have faced each other in the league final, with Bowdoin coming away
victorious in 2013 (47-12) and 2014 (44-0). Bowdoin won the regular season meeting between the teams on September 19.
The Polar Bears finished the regular season with a record of 6-0, surrendering just ten points all season. Flanker Paige Pfannenstiel
has been nearly unstoppable for Bowdoin, scoring a dozen tries in the
Polar Bears' regular season wins against Tufts, Middlebury, Colby and
Maine. Bowdoin has won its last 15 home matches overall dating back to
2013.
The winner of Saturday's match will host a Division II First Round
match on Saturday, November 14. Complete championship coverage will be
available on goubears.com
