Climate Change 2015 Update: Where are we and Where might we be headed?
Rockland, Maine - Join Sid Quarrier for an informative talk about climate change at the Rockland Public Library on Thursday, April 2 at 6:00 PM. The program will be in two parts: first an overview and an update of current climate science and related topics, and then an extended time for audience discussion and response. The overall purpose is to provide an updated context for the current National and State legislative sessions, and for the coming International Climate meeting in Paris in December.
The overview will include topics such as: current levels of CO2 and the rates of increase and what this means, current understanding of the stability of the West Antarctic and Greenland ice sheets, studies regarding regional drought, limiting warming to 2 degrees C and what that means for the future use of fossil fuels and more. The coming legislative sessions and the Paris meeting may provide an opportunity for incremental action, but the science argues for something quite different.
Sid Quarrier is not a climate scientist, but as a retired geologist, he follows climate science very closely. He has given numerous talks at the Rockland Library and locally on geology and earth history subjects. He lives in Appleton.
Rockland Public Library is located at 80 Union St. in Rockland. This program is free an open to the public. FMI: call 594-0310.
