Blue Hill Village Mittens Project, Other Library News

Blue Hill, Maine - The Blue Hill Village Mitten Project is looking for knitters! Volunteers are invited by the Friends of the Blue Hill Public Library to knit mittens from a Latvian-based design by Friends volunteer Marjorie Yesley, and to show them in an exhibit at the Blue Hill Public Library this fall.  And if the volunteers are willing, the mittens will be offered for sale at the exhibit, with the money raised going to buying holiday gifts for local children in need.

To help knitters with the project, knitting sessions have been set up at the Library where questions will be answered and help offered on Monday, March 30th from 1:00 to 2:30 PM, and Thursday April 2nd, from 6:30 to 8:00 PM.  For the pattern and more information please check: http://www.bluehill.lib.me.us/mittens.html, or call the Library at 374-5515.

Other Library News

Annual Student Art Show

The Blue Hill Public Library will be hosting the annual Student Art Show during the month of April. Schools and homeschoolers from surrounding areas have been invited to participate with the goal of sharing with the community the talent and creativity of local young people -- expressed in watercolors, pen and ink, ceramics, sculpture, collages, yarn and woven items, and much more. Creative energy will abound throughout the entire library, on almost every wall and counter, upstairs and down.  This show is a favorite with the public every year.

Everyone is invited to a reception to celebrate the artists and their teachers on Friday, April 3rd, from 4:30 to 6:00 PM. Supported by the Friends of the Library, this reception is a good time to view the artwork, meet some of the artists, and enjoy some refreshments.  For more information, please call Pat at 374-5515.

Yoga for Preschoolers

Blue Hill Public Library will be offering a 5 week yoga class for children from 3 to 5 years of age on Thursdays April 2nd to 30th, except for the 23rd (which is school vacation) from 9:00 to 10:00 AM. The class, taught by Rebecca Rose Tousignant, introduces children to the practice of yoga through stories, games, songs, and creative movement. The classes are free, thanks to the Friends of the Library. For more information call the Library at 374-5515.

6th Annual Stuffed Animal Pet Show

Kids ages 4 to 8 years are invited to groom and dress their favorite stuffed animals, and parade them down to the Blue Hill Public Library for the sixth annual “Stuffed Animal Pet Show,” on Saturday April 4th. The festivities start at 10:30 and will include stories, games, prizes and refreshments.

Registration is required so participants may sign up using the Library’s interactive calendar at www.bhpl.net or by calling the Library at 374-5515.
