Upcoming events at Portland Public Library Teen Library

Self-Defense and Martial Arts for Teens
Tuesdays in May at 2:45pm in the Rines Auditorium

This series will focus on Self-Defense techniques taken from Japanese Martial Arts.  Teens will develop self-discipline, confidence and a respect for the capabilities of themselves and others.   These classes will aim towards teaching you how to feel comfortable defending yourself from grabs, punches, kicks and other threatening situations.  Throughout the class, Teens will participate in regular physical training.
The Instructors:  Kimonee and Kianna have been training in Isshin Ryu Karate since 2004.  They have been teaching Martial Arts and self defense for the past 7 years.
After-school Movie: Enders Game

Prepare for a Summer Job
Wednesday, May 21st, 5:30pm-6:30pm in Meeting  Room #5

Learn how to obtain and complete a job application and tips on interviewing.
After-school Movie: Lottery Ticket
Friday, May 23rd, 3:00-5:00pm

Looking for something to do after school?  Come to our free screening of the movie Lottery Ticket.  The movie will be shown on a big screen in the Rines Auditorium.  This PG-13 movie stars Bow Wow as a teen who has won $370 million dollars.
Let’s Talk Graphic: Coming of Age Comics
Wednesdays this summer at 5:15pm in Meeting Room #5
Maine Humanities Council presents a series of graphic novel book discussions for young adults. Pick up a copy of the book at the library two weeks prior to the event. The discussion will be led by a local artist and teacher.
Pizza and art supplies will be provided.

Portland Public Library invites teenagers to “Teen After Hours”
Friday, June 6th from 6:00-9:00pm in the Rines Auditorium
Portland Public Library opens the Library once a month after hours just for teens!  The next After Hours event will be on Friday, June 6th from 6-9.   We will be showing the movie Ride Along. You can also eat pizza, play videogames and hang out with your neighbors at the library!  Please sign up with the librarian.  Space is limited.
