City Hall Hosts Stop on First Friday Art Walk Tomorrow to Let
Visitors Explore New Site & View Photography
Portland, Maine – The City of Portland is pleased to announce today that it has launched a new and improved website. The site, still found by going to www.portlandmaine.gov, will improve customer service and provide residents and visitors a much more user-friendly and intuitive experience when searching for information. News and events are featured much more prominently on the revamped site. City Hall will be hosting a stop on the First Friday Art Walk (FFAW) tomorrow, May 2, to showcase the photography from the new site and allow users to demo the site. City staff will be on hand with iPads, iPhones, and touch-screen computers so visitors can explore how it looks on various devices. FFAW attendees will have the chance to purchase Corey Templeton’s photographs, which he so graciously gifted to the city for use on the new site.“I’m excited to be able to roll out this new and improved website today,” said City Manager Mark Rees. “Our goal is to provide more transparency and a better online experience for our customers, and we feel that this site helps us achieve that. Residents will find much more information at their fingertips and visitors will benefit from the collaboration with our external partners.”
Some key new features of the site include the “My Portland” and “Community Voice” sections. The My Portland portal allows you to create a personal dashboard of features that are important to you. Users can customize calendars of specific meetings and events and set up quick links to favorite pages. The Community Voice portal allows users to comment on community issues and submit ideas for various city initiatives. *See attached overview.
On the homepage, the “Why Portland?” portal takes users to a page that showcases the fact that the city is a great place to live, work and play. Designed in collaboration with the city’s external partners, the page illuminates Portland’s brand and acts as a one-stop welcome center.
The new site is the result of a year-long effort by city staff. It is powered by CivicPlus, a leader in providing websites for government entities.
