Bangor, Maine - Graduates from Eastern Maine Community College’s 2014 class of Fine Woodworking and Cabinet Making will likely have full-time employment following their graduation in May.
Hinckley Yachts has invited students from the program to apply for positions at its Trenton facility. The luxury jetboat and sailboat manufacturer has added over 100 positions to its workforce over the last year, are working to fill another 20-30 positions immediately.
Successful applicants will gain full-time positions at competitive wage levels which include comprehensive benefits, 401k, and paid time off. Out of the 14 students in the class, 9 have already applied. According to Andy Fitzpatrick, Hinckley’s General Manager of Maine Operations, he expected a high percentage of the students to be offered fulltime positions within the organization.
“I have a high confidence that the majority of applications from EMCC students will lead to full-time employment,” Fitzpatrick says. “Any organization that is looking for skilled woodworking and craftsmanship
should look no further than the graduates from this program. They leave with a core set of skills that enable them to be flexible in many types of woodworking roles like those found at Hinckley Yachts.”
Eastern Maine Community College partnered with Hinckley to begin the Fine Woodworking and Cabinet Making concentration in 2012, anticipating industry growth that would lead to careers for graduates in the marine and specialty construction trades. The concentration is a tailored option within the two-year Building Construction program. It was funded by a $320,000 grant from the U.S. Department of Labor’s Employment and Training Administration.
“Our relationship with Hinckley through the Fine Woodworking and Cabinet making program is illustrative of how EMCC prepares students for in-demand jobs,” says Lawrence Barrett, Ed.D., president of EMCC. “Thanks to our strong partnerships with business and industry, EMCC graduates typically do not have to struggle to find employment post-graduation.”
Members of the media are invited to come learn more about the program and EMCC’s partnership with Hinckley Yachts on Tuesday, May 6th at 2:00 PM in the Building Construction Lab in Maine Hall of Eastern Maine Community College. Andy Fitzpatrick, EMCC President Lawrence Barrett, and Building Construction Faculty Chair Les Stackpole will be available to answer questions and discuss the employment opportunity for EMCC graduates further. Students will also be on hand to showcase their woodworking projects and talk about their experience in the program.
