Rockland –  The board of directors of Rockland Main Street, Inc., has announced the appointment of Gordon Page, Sr. as the new executive director of the 5 year old organization.  Page replaces Lorain Francis who left the position in December to take on the role of senior program director for the Maine Downtown Center.

Since that time, he has held executive management positions in the broadcast media, hospitality, tourism and transportation industries, most recently as vice president of Maine Eastern Railroad.  He also runs his own small business - Gordon Page Marketing & Public Relations

He is a past president and member of the Rockland Kiwanis Club, and a past president of the local Chamber of Commerce.  He served 13 of the past 14 years on the chamber board, stepping down at the end of 2013.  He also served as board president of Rockland- Share The Pride, an organization that was active in the 1990’s.

Rockland Main Street, Inc., board president Paul Benjamin expressed the opinion that Page brings the necessary skills and talent to continue and enhance ongoing efforts, and will bring new ideas and fresh insights to the organization.
Now in its fifth year, Rockland Main Street, Inc. is one of ten Main Street Communities in Maine, and is a focused partnership of residents, businesses and local government that enhances and protects the unique sense of place and economic vitality of downtown Rockland, Maine.

Affiliated with the National Trust for Historic Preservation's Main Street Center and the Maine Development Foundation, it is a national non-profit program intended to sustain vibrant downtown districts through historic preservation, economic restructuring, promotion, design and organization.

Page said he is looking forward to working with all the stakeholders of the organization, noting that there are many opportunities for volunteer participation by downtown merchants and neighborhood residents alike.

He further noted that the focus of the organization will include the development of greater diversity in the makeup of the business offerings, making the downtown more relevant to more people, while maintaining the pleasant blend of what has become known as Rockland’s “salty sophistication”.

The board of directors will host an informal reception at Time Out Pub from 5-7 PM on Tue. March 11.

The offices of Rockland Main Street, Inc. are located in the heart of the popular arts and restaurant destination on the second floor at 417 Main Street.
