UPDATE: Missing Kayaker FOUND Off Deer Isle

Deer Isle, Maine - The Coast Guard ended its search for a missing kayaker after he was found safe kayaking between Stinson Neck and Sheep Island near Stonington, Maine at 1:15 p.m. on Friday.

A Coast Guard MH-60 helicopter crew from Air Station Cape Cod, Mass. located the kayaker and relayed his position to a Maine Marine Patrol vessel. The MMP arrived on-scene and confirmed the kayaker to be Matt Grabowski.

Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Northern New England were notified of the missing person after he had missed his scheduled check in with his friend’s father Thursday. He was expected to be kayaking near Isle au Haut, Maine.

Grabowski indicated his cell phone was out of power and that he had not energized his VHF radio to make his scheduled check in.

Searching were crews from:

- Coast Guard Air Station Cape Cod, Mass.
- Coast Guard Station Southwest Harbor, Maine
- Maine Marine Patrol

BREAKING NEWS: Coast Guard searching for overdue kayaker near Isle au Haut, Maine

Ellsworth, Maine - The Coast Guard is searching for a missing kayaker, Matt Grabowski, 30, after he was
reported overdue at approximately 11:00 p.m., Thursday.

Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Northern New England were notified of the missing person after he had missed his scheduled call check-in on Thursday. He was expected to be kayaking around Isle au Haut, Maine.

Grabowski left Hatch Cove Stonington, Maine, Tuesday, for a several-day kayaking and camping trip and was scheduled to return to Stonington Friday. Grabowski is reported to be kayaking in a 14-foot yellow kayak and his last known position was in the vicinity of Burnt Island or Pell Island on the north side of Isle Au Haut.

Grabowski's last known position is Burnt Island, where he made a phone call to check in at 6 p.m., Wednesday night. Grabowski was camping in a one-man orange tent and using a 14-foot yellow kayak.

Currently searching are:

- MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter from Coast Guard Air Station Cape Cod, Mass.
- HC-144 Jayhawk helicopter from Coast Guard Air Station Cape Cod, Mass.
- 47-foot Motor Life Boat from Coast Guard Station Southwest Harbor, Maine
- Maine Marine Patrol
