Nova Scotia Tourism Launches 'Hit the Road With Me' Contest

Fans of the province will be creating their dream Nova Scotia road trips with a new Facebook contest, for a chance to have their dream come true.

Nova Scotia tourism launched its Hit the Road With Me contest today, May 13, tempting potential visitors with a grand prize road trip to Nova Scotia, valued at up to $10,000.

"The Hit the Road With Me promotion is just one of the innovative tactics we have launched to attract more first-time visitors to Nova Scotia," said Nova Scotia Tourism Agency CEO, Patrick Sullivan. "Through this year's marketing campaign, Take Yourself There, we are reaching people in our key markets who haven't yet had the opportunity to discover all of the amazing things our beautiful province has to offer."

In addition to the grand prize, each week, one lucky winner will receive an iPod Shuffle, loaded with a Nova Scotia playlist.

Hit the Road With Me will ask contestants to think about where they would like to travel in the province, what kind of activities they would like to do, and who they would like to bring along for the ride.

Participants can choose six exciting activities from 32 options, and enter the contest once a day. The range of choices includes everything from a thrilling hot-air balloon ride, to a great day at the beach, to a discovery tour of historic lighthouses. Each contestant can choose three Facebook friends to join in the fun.

"It's great to see the Nova Scotia Tourism Agency coming up with fun and innovative social media campaigns to help attract new visitors to the province," said Katherine Bailey, co-owner of East Coast Balloon Adventures.

Social media is a major component of this year's tourism marketing campaign. The Nova Scotia Tourism Facebook page is closing in on 100,000 fans, and the focus remains on engagement. For example, the weekly Friday Fan Photos, an album of user-submitted photos, receives more than 1,000 likes and 500 shares each week, with many fans posting positive comments.

According to socialbaker.com, a popular social media analytics platform, the Nova Scotia Tourism page is often among the top five Facebook pages in Canada for engagement.

The Hit the Road With Me contest runs until June 24. To enter, simply "like" the Nova Scotia Tourism Facebook page. The grand prize-winner will be notified by July 2.

Introducing Katherine Hughes Radio Disney N.B.T Contestant

Each year Radio Disney does a contest called N.B.T (Next Big Thing). Radio Disney N.B.T is a multiplatform programming feature that spotlights young recording artists and provides them with national broadcast and online exposure. Radio Disney and Disney Channel audiences are introduced to five unsigned artists and invited to look, listen and vote for their favorite at RadioDisney.com or via text messages. Previous N.B.T. artists have been signed to major record labels, opened concerts for popular artists such as Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez, and had their music featured in Disney Channel programming and on Walt Disney Records’ CD compilation “Radio Disney Jams,” part of a multi-platinum franchise.

This year's artists, ages 12-17, are:

Chloe and Halle Bailey are 13-year-old and 12-year-old (respectively) sister R&B singers and actresses from Atlanta, Georgia. Damian Otchere a 16-year-old pop, R&B singer, dancer and actor originally from Brooklyn, New York, currently residing in East Orange, New Jersey. Elle Winter is a 13-year-old pop singer, songwriter and actress from New York, New York. Jack Skuller, 16-year-old rockabilly singer and songwriter from Hoboken, New Jersey. The follow contest is Katherine Hughes a 17-year-old acoustic pop singer and actress from New York, New York.

We will be putting the spotlight on each contestant of this season's Radio Disney N.B.T over the next five weeks. This week we are featuring 17 year old Katherine Hughes of New York City, New York.

Katherine Hughes resides in New York City and is pursuing her lifelong dream of becoming a successful actress and singer. Her experiences in the industry already include; a guest star role on NBC's Law & Order: SVU, CBS's Blue Bloods, supporting roles in independent films, voiceover work, numerous national commercials, print work, and a personal youtube page. Industry insiders say that her talent, passion, charisma, and gamine looks are key ingredients for a long successful career.

Recently Katherine has garnered attention for her voice. Some of the praise includes; unique, mesmerizing, sublime, and pure. Included but not limited are Adele, Katy Perry, Rihanna, The Dixie Chicks and Norah Jones as pop influences throughout her life. She has made the commitment to focus on her singing and is now co-writing original songs. She is collaborating with musicians to create her own signature sound that can be described as an amalgam of soulful pop and jazz with a hint of country.
