Congresswoman Chellie Pingree (D-Maine) today praised the Governor Mills Administration’s progress over the last year to implement the Climate Action Plan and released the following statement:
“One year ago today, Governor Mills and her team unveiled Maine’s four-year Climate Action Plan, presenting the state legislature with a landmark roadmap to drastically reduce greenhouse gas emissions and protect Maine’s environment. With this bold plan, the administration sent a clear message: Maine won’t wait,” said Congresswoman Pingree. “The American Rescue Plan and the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act are helping Maine implement the quick action needed to stem climate impacts and achieve the
overall goal of carbon neutrality by 2045. When signed into law, the Build Back Better Act will have an even greater impact in supporting Maine’s efforts to address the climate crisis. I will continue to champion climate action in Congress and play my part in helping Maine achieve these goals to ensure a better future for generations to come.”Pingree is Chair of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Interior, Environment, and Related Agencies. She has championed a bold agenda to combat the climate crisis, including introducing legislation to reach net-zero greenhouse gas emissions in U.S. agriculture by 2040 and is a cosponsor of over 40 bills in the 117th Congress to combat the climate crisis, including the visionary Green New Deal. Pingree recently attended the 2021 United Nations Climate Change Conference, also known as the 26th Conference of the Parties (COP26), in Glasgow, Scotland, to help reassert American leadership on addressing the climate crisis.
