Central Maine Power Donates More than $330,000 to Community Organizations Across Maine

Donations benefit organizations including EqualityMaine, Maine Huts & Trails, WinterKids, Make-A-Wish Maine

AUGUSTA, ME – December 28, 2021 –  Central Maine Power (CMP) is proud to support community organizations throughout Maine. Over the last year, CMP has invested over $330,000 from shareholders into the communities they serve.

In addition to these donations, earlier this year, CMP announced targeted

donations of $450,000 to infrastructure and facilities projects at Maine nonprofits and $180,000 to STEAM education programs across the state. CMP’s charitable giving program is complemented by additional investment in Maine by the Avangrid Foundation, which has awarded $2.6 million in grants to Maine nonprofits since 2015.

CMP’s donations include continued partnerships such as Full Plates Full Potential and Maine Huts & Trails, as well as new partnerships with WinterKids and Make-A-Wish Maine. In addition to CMP’s monetary donations to the Dempsey Challenge and Tri for a Cure, employees formed teams to participate in the events and support these incredible organizations.

For the second year, Central Maine Power is proud to support EqualityMaine as its top-level Visionary Sponsor. In addition to that annual sponsorship, we funded the purchase of 2,000 pride flags to distribute to Mainers all over the state. This incredible EqualityMaine initiative was featured on an episode of Maine Life which aired during Pride Month.

“2021 has been a meaningful year for our community outreach at Central Maine Power,” said CMP President and CEO Joe Purington. “We are so pleased to give to so many organizations that directly help the people of Maine. We look forward to many exciting things to come in 2022.”

“We’re so grateful for Central Maine Power’s continued commitment to supporting our work,” said EqualityMaine Development Director Christopher O'Connor. “In addition to their annual sponsorship, CMP stepping up to partner with us this summer on our pride flag initiative means so much to our
organization and Maine's LGBTQ+ community."
