Owls Fly Past Moose


Augusta, ME — The Owls men's basketball team traveled down to the famous Augusta Civic Center where the Owls faced off against the host team, the University of Maine at Augusta Moose. The Owls earned the win after a rocky start, winning the game 82-70 bringing their record to 2-5 on the year. 

The teams were back and forth early in the game as they were tied up ten points

each in the first five minutes. The next ten minutes it was all Moose as they went on a 19-8 run. The Owls stepped up their defense, as they did not allow a field goal for the rest of the half. Their defense sparked their offense as they went on a 15-1 run to close out the half, Owls lead 33-30. After some early back and forth to start the second half, a quick 12-4 run by UMPI gave them a 12-point lead. The Owls continued to push their lead bringing their lead to 24 points and eventually putting the game away.

Gilbert Jean Mendez (Clearwater, FL) led the Owls with 23 points off 10-19 shooting to go along with five rebounds and two assists. Griffin Guerrette (Presque Isle, ME) finished with 19 points and seven rebounds. Danyjoel Harris (Danbury, CT) filled the stat sheet off the bench with 12 points on 50% shooting, eight rebounds, five assists, three steals and three blocks. KJ Minter (Elkton, MD) finished the game with eight points and eight rebounds and 4-7 shooting. 

The Owls head into conference play as they take on North Atlantic Conference opponent Husson University on Saturday, December 4 at 1:00PM.
