Huskies’ Gould Repeats at Little East Conference Rookie of the Week

GORHAM, Maine –  Freshman forward Catriona Gould (Freeport, Maine) of the University of Southern Maine Huskies’ women’s soccer team has been named the Little East Conference Rookie of the Week for the second consecutive week.  Gould previously earned the honor on September 6. 

 

Gould scored three goals for the Huskies in a 2-0

week, extending the team’s win-streak to five and a 5-0-0 record early in the 2021 season.   In Southern Maine’s 5-0 win over Saint Joseph’s College (Maine), Gould registered her second brace of the season with two second half goals. In a road game at local rival University of New England, Gould scored a late-game stunner to provide the Huskies with a 3-2 margin.  With just 16 seconds remaining in regulation and the scored knotted up at 2-2, Gould received a pass from freshman Kiki Huntress (Kittery Point, Maine/Traip Academy) and took one touch towards goal before lacing a goal into the top right corner for the game-winner.  

 

With six goals and three assists, Gould leads USM in points (15) and goals.  Gould is tied for the LEC lead in goals and assists and is the outright leader in points.   Gould has two game-winning goals thus far in 2021.

 

Southern Maine hosts Lasell University in a non-conference tilt on Wednesday (4:00 pm).
