Sea Dogs make it two straight, win 4-2 over Reading

Beeks dominates Fightins, Sea Dogs beat Reading 4-1
Lefty allows two hits over 5 scoreless frames

Portland, Maine - Jalen Beeks pitched five scoreless innings in his 2017 debut and led the Sea Dogs (2-0) to a 4-1 win over the Reading Fightin Phils (0-2)on Saturday afternoon at Hadlock Field.
 
Beeks (W, 1-0) allowed just two hits and struck out eight Reading batters.  He also walked two.
 
The Sea Dogs led wire-to-wire after scoring in the bottom of the first on an RBI single by Cole Sturgeon to score Aneury Tavarez, who led off the inning with a bunt single.
 
Portland added two more runs with two outs in the fifth on RBI hits by Jose Rosario and Sturgeon.  Then with runners on the corners, Sturgeon drew a throw on a stolen base attempt and Rosario scored in the ensuing rundown to put the Sea Dogs ahead 4-0.
 
Luis Ysla pitched two innings in relief of Beeks and allowed one earned run on two hits with a walk and two strikeouts.  Williams Jerez worked the final two frames and allowed one hit and one walk.

The Sea Dogs and Fightins conclude their series tomorrow afternoon at 1:00 PM. LHP Trey Ball makes his Double-A debut for Portland against RHP Drew Anderson of Reading.  Tickets are still available and can be purchased online at seadogs.com or by calling the box office at 207-879-9500.
