GORHAM, Maine -- The Little East Conference announced Monday afternoon that University of Southern Maine senior Jasmine Boyle (Brunswick, Maine) has been selected as the women's cross country Runner of the Week for the period ending October 9.
The weekly honor for Boyle is the first of her three-year career at USM. Boyle is the first USM female runner this season to receive an LEC weekly honor.
Competing this past weekend at the James Earley Invitational held in Westfield, Mass., Boyle finished fifth among the 459 finishers to lead the Huskies to an eighth-place finish among the 41 teams scoring at the event. Boyle covered the 6,000-meter Stanley Park course in a time of 22 minutes, 17.93 seconds.
Led by Boyle, the Huskies top five runners combined for a score of 304 points to earn the top ten finish. The University of New England finished first in the team scoring with 65 points, followed by Tufts University with 84. Keene State College was third with 208 points.
Southern Maine will be back on the trails next Saturday (11:00 a.m.) competing at the Maine State Championship being held at Pineland Farms in New Gloucester, Maine.
